citizenM Seattle: Modular I

DJC Building of the Year 2020
NAIOP Hospitality Development of the Year for 2020
ENR Owner of the Year for 2021
LEED Gold Certified

My role as “owner” on the first West Coast development of citizenM Hotels made me central to the successful completion of this highly complex volumetric modular hotel. Working as part of a two person team on the project I was exposed to literally all aspects of the ownership role, from managing a large team of design consultants, to contract negotiations, to project start-up and handover. The most interesting part of the project was its construction. As the podium was built on-site, I made regular trips from Seattle to Poland in order to oversee the fabrication of the guestrooms in the factory. These were then shipped to site on a break-bulk vessel and stacked on the site built podium. The hotel was opened in May of 2020.
